I’m an artist and designer based in Duluth, MN. I grew up in Ann Arbor, MI, went to Eastern Michigan University for my B.F.A in printmaking, painting and art history, and then studied photography at Columbia College in Chicago where I received an M.F.A.
I’ve always made art about where I am, studying the details of how places look and feel. I work in many mediums–drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, video and animation–and the common thread through my work is my interest in perception and studying the details of how places look and feel, but the subjects shift depending on place since the Midwest, New York City, Chicago, and my experiences abroad are so different from each other.
I’ve also been working as a designer for the past 15 years–graphic design, illustration, art direction and UX/UI design. So in addition to my love of drawing and all of the fine art mediums, I also work in Figma, Sketch, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, AfterEffects, FinalCutPro, Procreate, Procreate Dreams, CSS, HTML and MidJourney.
I’ve always made art about where I am, studying the details of how places look and feel. While living in New York and Chicago, my photography and video work was about the urban environment, capturing my time in transit and walking the city streets. Public areas became the focus of my work—El platforms, train stations, bus stops, airports, and city streets—what I think of as ”the places in between.” Now living in the Midwest, no longer in transit, I’m drawn to the light, color and space of the land that surrounds me.
I now live in Duluth with my husband and two kids, where I work as an artist and designer. Spending my days working in my sunny studio, where I can see Lake Superior off in the distance through the trees is a whole new kind of inspiration. I never could have imagined how much the beauty of The Midwest would draw out my creativity and bring me such joy.
